Project inception: Sustainable beekeeping and exchange of cooperation between Türkiye and Ukraine

Virtual Event, 15/10/2024

14:00 (GMT+3)

Apiculture plays a crucial role in supporting food systems and is a significant branch of animal production, offering valuable income-generating opportunities for family farmers in both Ukraine and Türkiye. As two of the world’s leading honey producers, these countries are also at the forefront of apicultural research and innovation. Beyond honey, their beekeepers produce a variety of high-demand products, including pollen, propolis, venom, and royal jelly. Additionally, the pollination services provided by bees are vital for boosting the yields of fruits, vegetables, and other crops, making beekeeping essential for agricultural productivity.

The inception meeting for the project, 'Sustainable Beekeeping and Exchange of Cooperation between Türkiye and Ukraine', will be held on 15 October 2024 in an online format via Zoom. This meeting will introduce project objectives, thematic focus areas, and implementation plans to participants from both countries.

Implemented under the FAO-Türkiye Partnership Programme (FTPP), which is funded by the Government of the Republic of Türkiye, the project aims to improve coordination and information sharing among key actors of the beekeeping sectors of both countries. It also seeks to enhance the capacities of apicultural educators. With a total budget of USD 200 000, the project will be executed until November 2025.
