Project inception workshop: Enhancing the resilience of Serbian forests (FOREST Invest)

Belgrade (Serbia), Hybrid Event, 24/06/2025

The “Enhancing the resilience of Serbian forests to ensure energy security of the most vulnerable while contributing to their livelihoods and carbon sequestration (FOREST Invest)” project, launched on 20 February through an agreement between FAO, the Serbian Government, and public enterprises “Srbijašume” and “Vojvodinašume,” aims to enhance the resilience of Serbia’s forests amid climate change. Over seven years, the USD 84 million initiative will improve energy security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 8.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, and benefit nearly three million residents. Key actions include afforesting 7 000 hectares, rehabilitating 51 000 hectares of degraded forests and 500 hectares of abandoned agricultural land through agroforestry. Funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), it aligns with Serbia’s climate-smart development goals.

The objective of the inception workshop (10 a.m. CEST, 24 June 2025) is to bring together key actors and partners to present the project’s goals, operational and strategic modalities, and expected results. The project team will introduce the project, outline planned activities, and present the first-year work plan.
