FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia

Regional conference on the greater involvement and empowerment of rural women

Ankara (Türkiye), 10/12/2024 - 11/12/2024

The project "Leaving No One Behind: Greater Involvement and Empowerment of Rural Women in Türkiye and Central Asia," implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye under the FAO–Türkiye Partnership Programme on Food and Agriculture, will conclude in December 2024. Over three years of its implementation in Tajikistan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan, the project provided rural women, as the largest group at risks of being left behind, with access to technical skills and equipment. At the same time, the project worked with the responsible institutions to ensure that policies and practices in agriculture and forestry are aware and responsive to the needs and priorities of rural women.

The final conference will allow participants to exchange and review promising practices generated under the project and discuss lessons learned. The event will provide a platform for sharing experiences in implementing advocacy, knowledge generation and capacity development activities under the project, and peer-to-peer learning process. Pilots in Burdur, Kahramanmaras and Ordu provinces of Türkiye in establishing gender units under the provincial directorates of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will be in focus. The legacy of the project is also represented by several knowledge products such as country gender assessments of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, and other publications.

The conference will be held in English, Russian and Turkish languages; simultaneous interpretation will be available.
