Second Ministerial meeting of the Moldovan Agri-food Partnership Platform
Berlin (Germany), 18/01/2025
The Agri-food Partnership Platform was founded jointly by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry of the Republic of Moldova, seven ministers from European Union (EU) members states (Austria, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Romania), and the European Commission in June 2022. Its mandate is to strengthen further the support for the development of sustainable agrifood systems in the country and foster its integration into the European Union after the Republic of Moldova became EU candidate country in June 2022.
The first Agri-food Partnership Platform took place in October 2023 in Chisinau and culminated with the signature of a joint declaration and collective commitment to support the European Union accession pathway of the country with special focus on agrifood systems. It was decided that it will present a regular platform where the European Union member countries, together with relevant international organizations will meet and discuss the major policy and economic challenges in the smooth development of the agrifood sector.
To this end, the second Moldovan Agri-food Partnership Platform aims to further strengthen the European Union accession trajectory of the country and the required support to achieve that goal. The event will be organized on 18 January 2025 in Berlin, Germany within the framework of the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA).
The two main objectives of the Partnership Platform are to
- to invite additional European Union member states to join the Platform; and to
- encourage members to strengthen support and take concrete actions to enhance the sustainability of the Moldovan agrifood sector.
Additionally, participants will present the progress in implementing the European Union accession agenda in the agrifood sector as well as evaluate the support committed during the first meeting, discuss major challenges and negative effects caused by the 2024 drought on agrifood sector, and uncover key insights and approaches in support of the Moldovan agrifood system.
