FAO and the Subregional Representation for Central Asia of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) are organizing the third workshop of the Central Asian Animal Health Network (CAAHN).

The purpose of the workshop is to share information and experience, identify regional needs related to animal health, including zoonoses, and to address them in a cooperative manner to facilitate regional trade, contribute to the economic development of the region and reduce risks to human health from zoonotic diseases using the One Health approach.

Participants will include representatives from the veterinary and public health authorities of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, and international agencies.

About the Network
Regional animal health networks offer a framework for building strong technical capacity, competency, leadership, and a critical mass of regionally networked specialists. The Central Asian Animal Health Network (CAAHN) will join forces to:

  • facilitate information exchange and experience;
  • standardize laboratory, field prevention/control, operating, communication and other procedures;
  • harmonize policies and approaches in accordance with international standards;
  • identify gaps, weaknesses, and priorities; and
  • fulfill these gaps, among others by providing training, capacity building.

Most importantly, CAAHN is meant to act as an umbrella to streamline, coordinate and avoid overlapping of all initiatives and projects (by international agencies and countries) related to animal health and One Health in Central Asia.
