Experts from the Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in collaboration with International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Jordan Ministry of Agriculture along with government officials from 18 Arab countries went for two field visits in Jerash governorate, Jordan.  Meeting with beneficiaries were held, listening to their experiences, and learning about the many success stories achieved by the FAO in support of Ministry of Agriculture in Jordan.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with Industry Disruptors Game Changers and Berytech, held a regional meeting to take stock of lessons learned out of the Agrination Initiative and map out next steps in creating a scaled up agrifood innovation and entrepreneurship programme in the Near East and North Africa. The recent Food Policy Monitoring Bulletin highlights that inflation continues to ease in most regional countries. Still, it is persistent in some economies, such as Egypt, Lebanon, the Sudan and Yemen. In North Africa wheat yields are projected to be well below-average and, thus, increasing import requirements, while in the Near East, winter cereal production is expected to be above-average. 

Regional consultations on the review of the Second Global Plan of Action for Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture  commenced in Kuwait. More than 50 participants from the Near East and North Africa region, including National Focal Points for Plant Genetic Resources to the  International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture and to the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, have met to discuss their priorities for the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources or food and agriculture.

The United Nations recognize that unsustainable food systems must be transformed to become more sustainable if the global community is to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The United Nations Agencies together with the private sector and other relevant stakeholders need to take a new approach in order to reach the SDGs targets.
