The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) raises alarm over high  risk of famine across the whole Gaza Strip, as long as conflict continues, and sustained and at-scale humanitarian access is restricted, according to a new report published by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) global initiative.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Jordan with the support of the Government of Spain, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), launched today the “Enhancing food security through adaptation to climate change and water scarcity in Ma’an and Karak Governorates” project, funded by the Government of Spain through the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).

The United Arab Emirates has signed a key agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to address the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and prevent the imminent risk of famine. The future of our land faces critical challenges, with up to 40 percent of the world's land already degraded. Healthy land, crucial for providing 95 percent of our food, clothing, shelter, jobs, and protection from natural disasters, is disappearing at an alarming rate—equivalent to four football fields every second, or 100 million ha annually.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) organized a regional Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop on the "SusaHamra App": a digital system for collecting and analyzing data on monitoring and surveillance of Red Palm Weevil (RPW) from June 3 to 5 in Muscat, Oman with the participation of specialists and officials from 7 Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Yemen, and Oman. Under the framework of the RPW eradication “GCP /RNE/012/MUL programme, a three-day workshop is organized by the FAO Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa (RNE), FAO's Plant Production and Protection Division (NSP), and in collaboration with Oman's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources. 

Tunisia, a country with a rich agricultural heritage, is grappling with a range of sustainability challenges arising from ecological, socio-economic, and climatic pressures. In 2021, the unemployment rate surged to 18%, disproportionately affecting young people (40%) and women (22%).

In the heart of southern Jordan, a remarkable story of empowerment is unfolding. The SPUAR Initiative, a project implemented by FAO and funded by the Italian Government through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), has transformed the lives of 60 women headed households in Ma'an Governorate.
